Another book meme.

I'm working on something to post that will *hopefully* be fun and/or interesting (keep your fingers crossed, kids), but it won't be ready for another week or two. So here's a book meme I swiped from the groovy thepeculiarcat instead.

1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest?
Either Beezus and Ramona, The Mouse and the Motorcycle or Super Fudge. I've had all since kindergarden. I was (and still am) a huge fan of Beverly Cleary & Judy Blume.

2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next?
Current: Mary Modern
Last: Sundays at Tiffany's
Next: The Memoirs of Helen of Troy

3. What book did everyone like and you hated?
Breaking Dawn. Worst book ever written. I do hesitate to use it to answer this question because when I returned my copy to Border's, the clerk told me that a lot of people had returned their copies for full refunds. Also, The Host sucked donkey balls, despite everyone saying it was so much better than the Twilight books...but I must admit, I only read the first 2 chapters, I just couldn't make myself read it!

4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?
I have a whole shelf full of true stories about amazing dogs, funny dogs, etc. I have a very bad feeling that a lot of them end badly, just like Marley and Me and Amazing Gracie. And I don't think I can handle reading them after losing my Druscilla :(

5. Which book are you saving for “retirement?”
None. I've already read War and Peace ;)

6. Last page: read it first or wait till the end?

7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside?
The only acknowledgements I've ever read were JKR's at the beginning of Deathly Hallows. Loved it ♥

8. Which book character would you switch places with?
Luna Lovegood. She's ♥. And pretty damn brave, too.

9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)?
The Outsiders reminds me of middle school/junior high. I was obsessed with that book & read it at least 10 times during 6th grade. And then we ended up reading it in Lit class in the 7th grade.

10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way.
My grandpa gave me his copy of Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates when I was in the 2nd grade. I must've left it at his house at some point, because about 12 years later, it ended up in a garage sale at my aunt's house & I had to buy it back for a quarter LOL (despite my name being written all over the inside covers...I should've Kaned her...KIDDING!!!!).

11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?

12. Which book has been with you to the most places?
Probably The Client. I took it to college with me...then back home home...doctor's offices all over Muncie & Fort Wayne...then to job interviews...and I still have finished the damn thing! I just couldn't get into it.

13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later?
No. My high school English teacher was one of the most brilliant & cool people I've ever met in my life. He basically chucked the 'required reading' list that the other classes were following out the window and had us read some of his favorite books. They were a little more 'grown-up' than what the other classes read, and I enjoyed every single one of them.

14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book?
Someone's detention slip.

15. Used or brand new?
Brand new. Other than antiques, I have this weird thing about used stuff.

16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses?
NGL, the only things I've ever read by him are a short story about werewolves back in high school and his columns in Entertainment Weekly, and I did enjoy those.

17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?
The Three Musketeers

18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?
I'm going to look into the future & predict that the movie adaptation of Breaking Dawn is going to be made of more FAIL than the world has ever seen. I CAN'T WAIT!!! :D

19. Have you ever read a book that's made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question?

20. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?
I can't think of anyone. Even Oprah has recommended a few clunkers IMO.

Plus he gets bonus points for being a Harry Potter nerd ;)

These memes are much more fun than the "what are you wearing/what was the last thing you ate?" memes. Not that I don't do those when I'm bored.....

Sure, the getting tortured & kidnapped bit wouldn't be fun, but Luna rules in general ♥

(and I don't think they could've gotten a more perfect actress to play her)
