Books meme.

Stolen from the fantastic thepeculiarcat...

1) What author do you own the most books by?
Not gonna lie...either Judy Blume or Beverly Cleary.

2) What book do you own the most copies of?
The Harry Potter series. I have 2 copies of each book (a hardback & a paperback copy for marking up).

3) Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions?
Not at all LOL.

4) What fictional character are you secretly in love with?
Jasper Whitlock Hale. I don't even care how retarded that makes me.

5) What book have you read the most times in your life?
The Outsiders. I was obsessed with it in middle school and probably read it 15 times in the 6th grade alone.

6) What was your favourite book when you were ten years old?
Something by Beverly Cleary or Judy Blume. (I first read Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret? when I was 9 and IT FREAKED ME THE HELL OUT.)

7) What is the worst book you've read in the past year?
Breaking Dawn. I hate that book SFM. (But this is funny.)

8) What is the best book you've read in the past year?
The Glimmer Palace, Gods Behaving Badly or You Suck: A Love Story

9) If you could force everyone to read one book, what would it be?
IDK. Pride, Prejudice & Zombies?

10) Who deserves to win the next Nobel Prize for literature?

11) What book would you most like to see made into a movie?
Gods Behaving Badly reminds me of a bawdy British sitcom, so I think it would translate well to film. You Suck: A Love Story would be fun, and I'd love to see a movie adaptation of anything by Gregory Maguire.

12) What book would you least like to see made into a movie?
Breaking Dawn is going to be a shitshow. I can't wait! LOLOLOL

13) Describe your weirdest dream involving a writer, book, or literary character.
I can't remember any particulars, but I've had dreams in which I was a student at Hogwarts :D

14) What is the most lowbrow book you've read as an adult?
See Jane Score. I read it a few months ago. It's a HOCKEY ROMANCE NOVEL and sooooo unintentionally hilarious. (Hockey fans: if you need some lightweight summer reading, check it out LOL.)

15) What is the most difficult book you've ever read?
I Know This Much is True or anything by Joyce Carol Oates (her writing style is intriguing, but gives me a headachte).

16) What is the most obscure Shakespeare play you've seen?
The only Shakespeare play I've seen is A Midsummer Night's Dream.

17) Do you prefer the French or the Russians?
The Russians. But to be fair, the only French authors I've read are Voltaire, Dumas & Zola.

18) Roth or Updike?

19) David Sedaris or Dave Eggers?

20) Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer?
Shakespeare. I mean, I have to say that, right? (I really enjoyed the other two, though.)

21) Austen or Eliot?
*ducks flying objects* Neither.

22) What is the biggest or most embarrassing gap in your reading?
This year. Normally, I'm reading 3 books at the same time, but it's been taking me more than a month to read a single book and I've gone long periods of time when I haven't been reading anything.

23) What is your favourite novel?
Any of the Harry Potter books. Shut up, I don't even care LOL.

24) Play?
Hedda Gabler

25) Poem?
I hate poetry & I don't even care. Except for Shel Silverstein, he's a genius. So I'm gonna say Where the Sidewalk Ends.

26) Essay?

27) Short story?
In the Gloaming

28) Work of non-fiction?
any biography of a classic Hollywood star: James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, Shirley Temple, Charlie Chaplin...just not the sensationalized ones!

29) Who is your favourite writer?
JK Rowling

30) Who is the most overrated writer alive today?
Stephanie Meyer...there are 15-year-old fanfic writers with more talent LOL.

31) What is your desert island book?
Mirror Mirror

32) And... what are you reading right now?
Sundays at Tiffanys...ugh, I hate romances LOLOLOL.

9) If you could force everyone to read one book, what would it be?
IDK. Pride, Prejudice & Zombies?

I was *this close* to picking that up when I was at Borders the other day, but I got Julie and Julia instead!

Oh, and I also have Molly! She is, without a doubt, the coolest of the American Girls.

Oooh! It's awesome. Strange, but awesome. On Sept 15, the same publishing house is releasing another mash-up: Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. According to Entertainment Weekly, there are lobsters & sparkly octopuses (you know how I like sparkly) and pirates that figure in to the story. Should be epic.

AGREED. I've wanted her since they first came out & this last Christmas, I finally just told my mom I WANT MOLLY & NOTHING ELSE. I like her pigtails & glasses & kicky beret & pluckiness in the stories. (Though she does look a bit lonely on my shelf & the new Rebecca Rubin doll is adorable LOL....)

So, I may just have to pick up both of those. I was a little wary of the zombies at first, but all of the people I know that have read it said it was worth reading. And I'm down with sea creatures.

I used to get the AG catalog and bug my mom about buying the rest of her wardrobe for me (I got Molly when I was 11, btw). My sister got Samantha at the same time, so wasn't ever lonely. :P

Zombies & sea creatures are like the 2 last things that come to mind when thinking of Austen, but it strangely works. IDEK.

My mom offered to buy me a couple of Molly's outfits, but I declined. Now I'm sort of sad I did. I'm on a kick of embracing my inner child lately ;-)

I keep meaning to steal the HP one you posted the other day.....

Doing it now :D

Yes, that one is fun too! XD

I really want to read, See Jane Score now. It sounds like something light and entertaining to keep be occupied :)

I never read romance novels, but this one had hockey so I had to, right? It's very light reading, innocuous fun. I keep getting recommendations on Amazon for an author named Deidre Martin who has written some hockey romances, too, so now I sort of want to check those out (in a guilty-pleasure sort of way).

I've never read a romance novel either, but this one is about hockey and just sounds entertaining. It seems pretty hard to pass that up!

Guilty-pleasure reading is always fun ;)

30) Who is the most overrated writer alive today?
Stephanie Meyer...there are 15-year-old fanfic writers with more talent LOL.

I just could never get myself to read the books, the premise of the story pains me to think about and I am SO SICK of hearing about her and those books. I'm just not into vampires, let alone disgustingly sappy ones. In fact I'm sick of the whole vampire thing in general, the only vampires I have ever even remotely liked were Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise and I liked them before "Interview" so that doesn't even really count.
Jul. 21st, 2009 12:55 am (UTC)
LOL I'm the oppposite: loved the Anne Rice books, but I loatheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Pitt & Cruise more than any other actors in Hollywood, so I've never watched the movies.

Twilight is for the lulz. I hate the 3 main characters, the sappy love story, but I'm still addicted? IDEK. I can't explain it. But the last time I read the series, I scanned & read all the NON-Bella/Edward/Jacob parts.
