Anyhoo! Just a few notes about the ~inaugural edition of the Pick-For-Me Book Club (then I promise I'll post about something else for once lol)...
Thirty-four people signed up for January. That's more than I could've hoped for! So a HUGE thank you to everyone who pimped the book club on your LJ ♥
Twenty-three people have received their reading assignment. Tomorrow I plan on sending out reminders to anyone who hasn't picked a book for their buddy yet. If you want me to drop you a note when your assignment is posted, I will gladly do so, just leave me a comment...
There are obviously a few speed bumps in the whole process, but I'm working on them! I know one thing that would help A LOT is if the book club were run thru a community rather than my personal LJ. I was playing it safe. I was worried I'd set up a community and 24 people would sign up for January and then only 6 for February. If there isn't a huge drop off from January to February, we'll more than likely move to a comm starting in March. As promised, I'm leaving all book club related posts public...anyone who wants is more than welcome to friend me if they'd like, or track my LJ, whatever. Or if you have someone on your flist who'd like me to drop them reminder notes for each stage, I can do that too. Whatever makes it easier for everyone :)
I hope everyone who has their assignment is enjoying their book so far! Sign-ups for February will start on January 27. Any questions/comments, let me know :)

1. Is our 'to be read list' a thing we can update? Like, if I think of more books I want to add, is that cool? Of if I decide 'fuck this book' and delete one of them?
2. Are you going to watch Meghan Ory's new show? I can't remember what it's called, (Intelligence, I think) and I don't even think she's the main character but I don't care because RED. I feel like we need discussion posts if your answer is yes.
2. I honestly don't know. I think it looks interesting (a lot more interesting than I'd expected tbh) and I loooooove her, but I guess I'll just to wait & see how it fits into everyone else's TV schedule (all my brother's shows just started back up & we're recording CONSTANTLY). I'll let you know if I do, though! :)
Ok! I'm honestly just watching it for her, but I do kind of like Marg Helgenberger (however you spell that) too, so I'm hoping it's good!
Love the club so far! Already 1/2 done with one of the books chosen for me :)
YAY! I'm so happy to hear that :) :)
This sounds fun. ;_; I don't have a "to read" list. But this is a cool idea to get through books :)
I'm looking forward to it because I tend to keep buying books I need t read *now* even though there are books on my shelf still anxiously awaiting my attention. I like the idea of being assigned books too because quite honestly I sometimes find it hard to decide just what to read next.
I thought I’d explained it well enough but I guess not.Needless to say, those people didn’t join ;)I’m EXACTLY the same way about books I need *now*! I’ll hear about a book and rush out and buy it like I don’t already have 80+ books waiting on me. Or sometimes I’ll buy one I just ~have to have and by the time I finish the one I’m currently reading, I forget about that ‘must-have’ and pick up something else. And then there’s just the times I have NO CLUE what I’m in the ‘mood’ for…not to mention the books I want to read but find daunting or whatever & know I’ll never read them if someone doesn’t give me a push!
That icon is so adorable :)
Why would people message you that? I mean if it's not something they want to do then that's fine but to message you seems odd. Also you explained it perfectly even I understood it and I get confused remembering my left from right. :P
But yay! I'm glad it worked for you & that you finished both books. (I shocked myself & read both of mine, too…finished last week and have read 2 books since, I'm on a roll here lol.) "Sharing" post *and* sign-ups for February go up on Monday. You're the only person I've told, but I caved & set up a comm for the book club going forward…think it might be easier for anyone who still wants to be involved. Though now I'm totally afraid that only 5 people will sign up for February lol.
Let me know if you need help with the comm. I'm sure it'll get bigger for February. If not, looks like we're partners friend :)
(I've had people ask if their TBR's could be updated. And saying they didn't have TBR's. Or that they already have the books they're reading for the year mapped out...to which I just said it wasn't the club for them. I need to be clearer about the ~purpose or something lol. My bad!)
Thanks for offering to help! I was thinking about whether or not I'd need help from a co-mod or 'think tank' or whatever. I will definitely let you know!!! :)
I have three TBRs- a huge one on Goodreads, a smaller one on here, and then always a new stack from the library that have otherwise caught my eye. I, uh, thought your purpose was pretty clear with the PICK FOR ME book club. But then again, we both have those coworkers (your Chatty and my Jam) that prove that nothing is ever as simple as we think it is, lol.
…then I decided I needed to read some lighter fare to make up for it, and wouldn't you know, there's a refugee from Nazi Germany in the book I chose.
Speaking of Chatty (ugh), I've only had to put up with her twice in the last 6 weeks. But then she stopped by my cubicle about an hour ago and did a 15 minute soliloquy on almond flour & her neighbor's dentures. FML…
