Fables, the graphic novel series by Bill Willingham should totally be made into a movie. (Actually, a triology would be better lol.) If you're not familiar with this series, let Wikipedia explain it to you, I'm not in the mood lol:

The series deals with various characters from fairy tales and folklore – referring to themselves as "Fables" – who have been forced out of their Homelands by "The Adversary" who has conquered the realm. The Fables have traveled to our world and formed a clandestine community in New York City known as Fabletown. Fables who are unable to blend in with human society (such as monsters and anthropomorphic animals) live at "the Farm" in upstate New York.

Willingham reinterpreted many of the characters, evident in the divorce of Snow White and Prince Charming due to his infidelity. The former is deputy mayor of Fabletown as the series begins. Another principal character is the Big Bad Wolf (calling himself "Bigby"), who has not only reformed, but gained the ability to take on human appearance, and serves as Fabletown's sheriff at the series' beginning.

On December 8, 2008 it was announced that ABC had picked up the rights to develop a pilot of Fables for the 2009-2010 television season. Six Degrees creators and executive producers Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner are writing the script for the hourlong drama, again set up at Warner Brothers Television, while David Semel has come onboard to direct.

This never happened, obviously. I think I'm sort of glad? ABC doesn't handle
quirky, original shows well, unless they're titled Lost. *is still bitter over the cancellation of Pushing Daisies*

The artwook from the novels is beautiful. I imagine a movie with soft, sort of washed-out cinematography...

**This totally reminds me, I'm like 6 trade paperbacks behind. YIKES!

I've never gotten the chance to read Fables, but I've been mildly in love with the artwork since one of my friends showed it to me.
It sounds really good though, I think I'll have to go find it now.

I really love them. Fables 1: Legends in Exile moves sort of slow because they're just introducing the characters, but the rest of them are awesome. And they're just stunning to look at (especially the 1001 Nights of Snowfall, IMO).

That sounds like a really cool concept. Too bad ABC was too lame to make it work. Maybe some other station will pick it up.

I thought it would be a good concept for the Sci-Fi Channel...excuse me, SyFy *eyeroll*...but I'm not sure what kind of budgeting they have? But Alice & Tinman were good, so I think they could make it work...

It will always be sci-fi to me!
You're right, it would make a good fit. They're kind of eclectic.

It will always be sci-fi to me!

Me too! When I read they were changing the spelling, it was like "what, is it too complicated so you're dumbing it down?!?" Or that a 13-year-old girl came up with it ;)

I can't remember why they changed it, but it was a really lame reason.
There is an outdoor music theatre in my state and a couple of years ago, they changed the name from 'Pine Knob' to 'DTE Energy Music Theatre'. No one EVER calls it that.
Jun. 24th, 2010 08:51 pm (UTC)
We have a similar situation with the outdoor theater near Indianapolis. It was called Deer Creek forever & they changed it to "The Verizon Wireless Center". Aren't there like 589 Verizon Wireless Centers around the country? It's always gonna be Deer Creek to me. I hate when they ruin stuff for corporate sponsorships D:

JANIS!!! I love her, soooo amazing & gone waaaaay too soon.

I went to a Ringo Starr concert (TOTAL AND UTTER BLISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) there and he commented on the recent name change and said that it was ALWAYS going to be Pine Knob.
Jun. 25th, 2010 12:42 pm (UTC)
You saw ~*~RINGO~*~?!?!?!?!? OMG THIS IS ME BEING JEALOUSSSSS!!!! lolol ;)
Jun. 25th, 2010 05:20 pm (UTC)
Yep, I saw Ringo and then later that summer, I was randomly surfing the internet and decided to check out this local bars website. That weekend, Pete Best was playing a concert. At this teeny little bar in Saginaw. I totally went. I was the only person under 40, but it was SO FREAKING AWESOME. And afterwards he did this meet and greet and omfg. *dies*

PETE BEST TOO?!?!?! I honestly had no idea he toured. Does he do original stuff or Beatles stuff or what?
Jun. 25th, 2010 05:38 pm (UTC)
Indeed I did :)
I have his autograph around here somewhere. It was VERY hard not to go all *fan girl* on him.
There was a mix, some early beatles stuff that he was involved in, a couple of popular later tunes and some original.
Yeah he tours quite a bit. Its all on www.petebest.com

I remember watching a documentary about him on PBS a few years back... /random

So which is your favorite Beatle?

He's got a cameo in 'The Rocker' With Riann Wilson and Christina Applegate. Its a really good movie and there is an interview with him on special features if you're interested.

Hmmm thats a toughie. I like them all for different reasons. My first 'love' however was John.
How about you?
Jun. 25th, 2010 07:43 pm (UTC)
I started watching that movie one day & got interrupted. I was enjoying it, so I'll have to look out for it again.

I'm a George girl, myself ;)

I was randomly looking for comedies to reserve at the library and I was like 'this looks kind of cheesy, but I'm in a cheesy mood'. It was really NOT cheesy.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard that George had passed. It was the ass crack of dawn and I was driving toward the city, listening to the classic rock station. 'My Sweet Lord' came on. I just knew what had happened.

I found out after school when I stopped & bought the afternoon paper. I've only cried because of 2 celebrity deaths: George & Paul Newman :(
Jun. 26th, 2010 03:38 am (UTC)
I cried for George and for Ron Asheton (guitarist for Iggy Pop and The Stooges)
