Need some advice.

I went to get my hair cut & colored this afternoon. The mood in the salon was ~tense~ but I thought maybe it was just me cause I was ready to cut a bitch myself. When I went out to the reception room to pay, my stylist followed me out & told me that tomorrow is her last day there. She gave me a card for the new salon she's going to and told me to "call if I needed anything...they know my schedule". The receptionist never bothered to set up my appointment for June (they just automatically set up my appt 4 weeks out, have been for the last year & change).

So...do I have to follow my regular stylist to her new salon? Cause it doesn't seem like my type of place, I'm not nearly ~cool~ enough to fit in with their clientele ("coolness" being relative, this place is in a town of about 7500 people). Can I stay @ the current salon and take a chance with her replacement (only the owner & 1 stylist work there and it's damn near impossible to get an appointment with the owner). I really like the color/style & I'm afraid a new girl wouldn't "get" it....but that I'd be okay if I happened to get a spot with the owner. Or do I just go back to coloring it myself & let it grow ass-length again? Or do I go back to the Walmart salon (j/k)?

I'm not being ~vain~, TBQH I really don't give a rat's ass at the moment what I look like, it's not like I'm trying to impress anybody. My main things are I hate it when my roots show & I want my hair to be easy to take care of which ass-length hair is definitely NOT.

It took me YEARS before I found a salon I was happy with...believe me, I wouldn't have gone 2 years without getting it cut if I'd found a place earlier. Any advice would be mucho appreciated!

1) Have you had a lot of bad experiences with other stylists who have done your hair, or is your hair generally pretty easy to work with?
2) Have you gone to this stylist for a long time, and do you trust her pretty implicitly with your hair?
3) Is it a big change in price/distance to travel if you were to go to the new salon?

Or you can just blow it all off and move up here and I'll do your hair. ;)

1)Yes, lots of baaaaaad cuts. I don't think my hair is that difficult: it's not really thick & it's stick straight. (She's the only person I've ever had color my hair. Other than myself & box color @ home.)

2) I've gone to her since February '09. Which is the longest I've ever gone to one stylist. I do trust her, I just tell her to do whatever the hell she wants with my hair & there's only been one time that I wasn't totally happy (the color was way too dark for my complexion/tastes lol).

3) It's only about a mile away. I don't know about prices, but I'd imagine they'd be about the same. My big ~problem~ is this place tends to be frequented by 19-24 year olds...the "cool kids"...and yeah, I'm 26 but faaar from cool & I just know I'd feel so uncomfortable in that environment.

That sounds like a good plan :P

I was hoping you'd comment on this since you know the most about the subject.

Okay, based on everything you said: follow her. When you find someone who knows what she's doing, and knows how to deal with your hair specifically, it's worth it to follow her wherever she goes (within reason).

And who gives a shit, screw the 19-24 year old kids, generally they're all dickbags anyway, they won't know anything about life until they're at least your age. Walk in with your head held high and your ego intact and fuck them if they think anything differently. You're amazing and they should be glad they get to bask in your awesomeness.

I say follow her.

I found a pretty amazing stylist at a Hair Cuttery of all places, and then one day when I went to schedule an appointment with her, I found out she was gone. I was then directed to where she was instead, and turns out it was just a new, non-chain salon across the street. I went there a few times to get my hair cut and colored.

I wouldn't take my chances with someone new, because I did that once and she fucked up my hair.

Something else I do, is that if I *have* to go somewhere else, I request the master stylist. You pay a little bit more but you get a better hair cut, I've found.

Oy that sucks, I'm going through a similar deal right now...except my friend tyler is thinking about moving to LA so I can't move with her. I agree with everyone else, once you find someone who can cut your hair and you mesh you can't just let that get away. A haircut is important and it sounds like you really trust her.

How cares about the new salon, if she's good, she's worth the move!

It depends. If you follow the stylist, the price at that salon might be wayy higher than at the original place. & don't say that you don't feel like you'd fit in because it's a salon and they are supposed to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

You could always drive out here and come to the salon I work at! LOL!

Agreed with most peeps here - follow her, unless the new prices are exorbitantly high...

FOLLOW HER.

Seriously, do it.

Finding that right person who you like doing your hair is SO hard. And once you find someone, stick to them like glue.

The girl who does my hair, is on maternity leave and will be gone until the end of this month, when her 3 months of leave are over AND MY HAIR IS LONGER THEN IT'S BEEN IN A YEAR since I don't trust anyone else to do it. My hair is thick like a forest and finding someone who will take the time cut it properly? Not so easy. Don't chance it, lol.

Honestly, I'm not real happy with the color/cut I ended up getting last week. It's impossible to do anything with it, it seriously looks like she took a weed-whacker to the ends & the color is real dark in the back & real light in the front. I'm gonna chalk it up to the pervasive ~tension~ in the salon that day, since I've only ever been unhappy with her work once before. But if she fucks it up again the first time @ this new place, I'm searching for someone new.

...or like going back to box color & letting it grow to my ass again.

And if the bitches in there are super-snooty (which, duh, the town it's in, that's pretty much a give) to the point that I have an overwhelming desire to stab them with their shears, I'm outta there lolololol.
